The UK development business is focused primarily on the delivery of large scale integrated developments designed to regenerate town centre and major urban sites. Lend Lease is the UK’s only fully integrated retail, residential and commercial provider and is committed to delivering sustainable property solutions. Our portfolio boasts a number of high profile projects, including major London regeneration projects Stratford (www.theathletesvillage.com), Greenwich Peninsula (www.greenwichpeninsula.co.uk) and Elephant & Castle.
With a long-term commitment to the communities in which it operates, Lend Lease is actively investing in towns which are currently underperforming in relation to their catchments. The investment acts to reduce customer migration and leakage to larger, regional centres, and return the retail spend to the local town centre. The win of Tithebarn at Preston is a demonstration of Lend Lease’s competitive ability to comprehensively deliver on a mixed use platform. Tithebarn joins the pipeline of developments which also includes Chelmer Waterside at Chelmsford.
Lend Lease is structured to provide a truly integrated approach, offering residential capabilities (both affordable and social) through Crosby Lend Lease and First Base (45% owned by Lend Lease). Lend Lease also offers construction and project management services through Bovis Lend Lease. Lend Lease is able to provide its partners with total certainty and assurance on delivery of the finished product, and absolute control over its quality.
We are also responding to the sustainability challenge and our commitment to sustainability was recognised last year when Lend Lease was one of only 21 real estate companies to be included on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. In 2007 Lend Lease launched the Sustainability Report for our UK business. The report calculated the business’ impact on the environment and set out how we would reduce these to become more eco-friendly; we aim to be zero carbon by 2016. Lend Lease strongly believes that sustainability, local engagement and stakeholder respect are commercial imperatives – not extras. We are a founding member of the UK Green Building Council.
