Chelmsford City Football Club

Chelmsford City Football Club, or the “Clarets”, become a professional side after the club reformed in 1938.  The team returned to the borough and their new home at Melbourne Stadium, or Chelmsford Sport & Athletics Centre as it’s also known, in the season 2006/2007. The stadium is approx 15 minuet drive time from the town centre and can easily be reached by public transport. Match day admission fees start at £3.50 for juniors, £7.50 for concessions and £12.50 for adults.

Essex County Cricket Club

Located just a stones throw from Chelmsford town centre is the Ford County Cricket Ground, the home of Essex County Cricket Club.  A whole host of fixtures are played at the ground throughout the season, which starts at the end of March and runs until September, including some under floodlight. Essex and general cricketing merchandise can be purchased from the onsite shop. Tickets can be purchased at the ground itself of via the website.

Riverside Ice & Leisure

As Chelmsford’s main leisure centre, Riverside Ice & Leisure has something on offer for everyone and is only a short walk from the town centre. It boasts a 33 meter indoor main swimming pool with 60 meter flume ride and triple diving platform. A 20 meter indoor learner pool, free-form outdoor heated pool, Kool Kids children’s soft play area, two squash courts, fitness suite, six-court sports hall, multi-use activity room, licensed bar and restaurant. It’s also home to Essex’s only ice rink and the Chelmsford Chieftains Ice Hockey team.

West Park Pitch & Putt

Located approximately 20 minute walk from the town centre is the West Park Pitch & Putt with an 18 hole pitch & putt and 9 hole crazy golf course.  Equipment is available for hire, along with parking facilities and a cafeteria.  A kids club runs on Sunday from 9:00am – 10:30am, with tuition by a PGA coach.
