Meadgate primary crowned winner of The Meadows’ 2017 shop for schools
The Meadows’ Shop for Schools campaign comes to an end with Meadgate Primary taking the £700 first place prize
Over the last four months, shoppers at The Meadows have been spending in the centre to gain tokens to vote for their school as part of the traditional Shop for Schools campaign.
Three lucky Chelmsford schools – Meadgate Primary, Moulsham Juniors and Newlands Spring Primary – will win a share of the £1000 prize fund through either cash or goodies for their school.
The campaign, which started in February, has seen 18 schools battle it out to take the £700 top prize. Narrowly missing out on the top spot was Moulsham Juniors that claimed the second place position and took home £200, and Newlands Spring Primary that came in third place, won £100 to spend on equipment, books, supplies or accessories for their school.
Students at Meadgate Primary, Aidan, Emily-Jane, Nidhi, Melissa, Alex and Mason join deputy head Kay Meager and Centre Manager Sue Patel at The Meadows to celebrate winning Shop for Schools
Centre manger Sue Patel explains
“This year the leaderboard has constantly changed with top five spots changing from week to week. It’s been great to see shoppers at The Meadows receiving their tokens and voting for their school. Well done to Meadgate Primary for being first place, we hope you enjoy spending your prize money!”
Head teacher Joe Figg from Meadgate Primary says
“We are delighted to win this year following up our third place in 2016. We would like to thank our amazing parents/carers for their support in collecting tokens and spreading the word to other family and friends. We are one of the smallest schools in the campaign yet we secured more tokens than the bigger schools that were taking part! Without the support from parents/carers schools cannot function smoothly and our parents/carers are simply amazing. We intend to spend the winning money on interactive mathematics resources to support children’s’ growing mathematics problem solving and reasoning skills. Meadgate Primary is a growing school and is now officially a good school once again with outstanding judgements for children’s’ personal development, behaviour and welfare and the early years provision and by winning the Meadows Shop for School’s Campaign we can purchase resources to further improve and develop outcomes for all children. Thank you to you all.”
Parents and relatives from the city’s participating schools collected the most tokens through their shopping at The Works this year, where manager Moyra says
”Shop for Schools is a great campaign for the Meadows and for the city; the schools love the chance to win cash prizes that enhance their students learning experiences, and we love helping them with our range of books, toys and stationery!”
